Just one game can reveal a lot about prep grid teams.
It was a given that Steubenville is a cut above the remainder of the OVAC. That was reinforced by the Big Red's 36-0 spanking of Inkster, Mich.
Opening-week victories also cemented the fact that Martins Ferry, Bridgeport, St. Clairsville, Brooke, Wheeling Central and some others may be as good as advertised.
Others like Shadyside and Barnesville, meanwhile, stamped themselves as teams that could be major players this fall. The Tigers thumped Beallsville much easier than expected while the Shamrocks rallied against big-time foe John Glenn. Both triumphs may prove a springboard to much more success in 2010.
Question marks abound for several teams. Union Local prevailed but had a much more difficult time than expected against Meadowbrook.
One uncertainty looms at Monroe Central. The Seminoles are poised for a big season if they can get and then stay healthy. Several key injuries nearly turned an impressive win into a stunning setback.
The jury is still in the All-American Town, where Bellaire and St. John Central look to make amends for lopsided losses.
Week one is in the books. Week two will certainly answer some questions while presenting many more.
