Football Under Way
August 31, 2010 - Seth Staskey
It's official, football season is here and unfortunately, Major League Baseball takes a spot on the backburner.
I know I am in the minority in that belief, but I, like everyone else, am entitled to my opinion.
Anyway, enough of that mini diatribe. During the first week of the prep football season, we saw very few surprises, hence me finishing 13-0 on the weekly T-L Pick Parade. Not bragging, just pointing out that many of the games during the opening week were cut and dry.
Obviously, the season will get a little tougher to predict as it goes on because injuries and a lot of different factors will eventually pop up in the conversation during the next nine weeks.
It was a good opening week, a lot of pagentry, impressive numbers and a chance to learn a little more about what many expect to be a fairly balanced season amongst a lot of teams. Many people asked me during the summer, who the best team in the area was going to be. After I clarified if Steubenville was or wasn't part of the conversation, I plainly answered, "I don't know because everyone is fairly similar."
And I sincerely meant that. I mean it was truly hard to gauge even after we went around to some 15 media days and talked to coaches. And after one week, we're still a little in the dark. However, the picture will clear as we move along.
