Tattoos...Good or Evil?

September 17, 2010 - Kim Collette

Which side of the fence do you fall on?  Me you ask?  I fall on the good side of course!  And, I'll let you know why.

Believe it or not, I think Pamela Anderson explains how I feel about tattoos the best.  "Tattoos are like stories---they're symbolic of the important moments in your life.  Sitting down talking about where you got each tattoo and what it symbolizes is really beautiful."  And I couldn't agree more!

Tattoos are losing the stigma that only the "low life" people have them.  Tattooed people now are all different ages and come from all different backgrounds.  Tattoos are now popular in mainstream culture.  Look around you.  A lot of people have been getting tattoos lately.  I bet you can spot a tattoo pretty much anywhere you go these days.

I know there a lot of people who still do not accept tattoos.  And that's ok.  But, to me, tattoos are permanent pieces of artwork.    If you have ever seen the t.v. show LA Ink, you'll see my point.  The tattoo artists featured on the show are some of the most artistic people I have ever seen.  To them, the skin is like a blank canvas waiting to be created on.

To me, tattoos also represent the person who has them.  They are representions of memories or monumental times in peoples lives.  Each tattoo that I have represents a significant time in my life.  They are my way of always remembering how I became the person I am today.

Tatoos used to be considered rebelious or bad behavior, and are now considered an experience in pop culture.  Tatoos are becoming acceptable means of expression.  It seems to me that popular culture has embraced the art of tattooing and acceptance.  Tattoos will never go away.  They will always be a part of our pop culture.  Embrace an individuals right to express oneself.

Until next time friends!
