Mark Dantonio

September 20, 2010 - Seth Staskey

It's amazing the rollar coaster of emotion involved in sports. Michigan State went from celebrating a huge win over Notre Dame on a fake field goal in overtime to praying for their coach after learning that he'd suffered a minor heart attack.

The news of the heart attack broke Sunday and it really came as a surprise. First and foremost, Dantonio is only 54 years old and he looks to be in top-notch physical shape. It just proves you never know. Thankfully, Dantonio, who is a Zanesville native and was defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes when they won the 2002 BCS Championship, didn't wait around and ignore his symptoms. He acted immediately and was treated.

Dantonio hasn't been released yet from the hospital nor has be been given a timetable for his return to the sideline, but if coming off the Notre Dame win wasn't big enough for the Spartans, who broke into the top 25 polls this week, playing for their coach will definitely serve as motivation.

Hopefully, Dantonio is okay and eventually receives a clean bill of health and is back on the sidelines.
