Is there a celebrity dancing "revolt" underway? You may have heard what has been going on. One of this year's celebrity dancers, Michael Bolton, was not happy about the way one of the judges (Bruno Tonioli) critiqued him. And if there wasn't enough backlash from that event, another judge (Len Goodman) criticized Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a professional dancer, on his training techniques and the final judge (Carrie Ann Inaba) followed the comment by spanking him. So what exactly is going on over at DWTS?
Here's my take------GET OVER YOURSELVES JUDGES! Yes, I understand that you are a "judge," but these are not professional dancers you are judging. The "celebrities" that are chosen as contestants are not dancers. Most of the time they are actors, athletes, reality show stars or singers. NONE of them have a dancing background. Lighten up a bit. You don't have to be sooooo harsh. They are doing the best that they can. Granted, some of them aren't the best dancers. But, you can judge and not be mean spirited about it.
In my eyes part of the blame is the popularity of the show. Now it seems like each judge is making the show about themselves and not the dancing. In essence, they are trying to be like Simon Cowell. Simon used to be biting and truthful about singers performances when they were good or bad. The difference however, is that the contestants on American Idol are trying to become a star so the criticism is helping them to strive for their dream. The contestants on DWTS already are stars. Tney don't need Carrie Ann, Len or Bruno criticizing them to become a star. They are dancing for a plastic "mirror ball" trophy and nothing else.
Hopefully the judges "hear" some of the criticism that is being said about them and learn from it too.
Until next time friends!
