Rather Be Wrong
October 18, 2010 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
Sometimes I would rather be wrong than right. Such was the case Saturday night. The topic at hand is Ohio State's trip to Wisconsin. I have repeatedly said since August that Oct. 16 would be the toughest game on the Ohio State schedule. Badgerland is a difficult place to play, especially at night. My concerns were unfortunately validated quickly and frequently. Wisconsin took control by returning the opening kickoff to paydirt and were never headed, after building a 21-0 advantage. While gloom and doom pervades the Buckeye Nation today, I can see them working their way back into the national title contention. OSU is ranked 11th in the latest AP poll. Three teams -- Boise State, BYU and Utah -- even if they go spotless will likely take a backseat to once-beaten teams from BCS conferences. Auburn and LSU square off this week, with one losing and the rugged SEC eventually taking its toll on the winner. No. 1 Oregon could bite the dust at USC while Oklahoma could fall at Mizzou this week or in the Big 12 title game to Nebraska. Big Ten members Michigan State and Wisconsin both will lose, possibly to Iowa. Should the Buckeye take care of business against the Hawkeyes on Nov. 20, I foresee Ohio State facing Alabama for the national championship. Stranger things have happened.
