| | GOP In ControlNovember 8, 2010 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral Now that the dust has settled on November's General Election, the Democrats are on the outside looking in while the Republicans are feeling good about life. Ohio Democratic incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland lost a close race to GOP challenger John Kasich. Strickland is a character guy. He cares about people. Strickland's loss was a matter of bad timing. He was elected governor when a tidal wave of economic chaos was beginning to pour through the nation, with Ohio being one of the hardest hit. He was left holding the bag. It is likely that no one could have turned around Ohio fortunes at that time. Consequently, Strickland, and many fellow Democrats, were washed out of office. Kasich has promised massive cuts to balance the budget. Education is going to be a major target. Kasich also vows to eliminate the state income tax. Should the removal of the state tax come to fruition, it will be welcomed with open arms. However, the last thing public education needs in Eastern Ohio is more cuts. Our school districts are struggling to stay afloat as it is now.
