What more could you ask for in Week 13 of the prep football season than having two local teams vie for a regional title? The entire Ohio Valley will be embracing the Bridgeport-Shadyside rematch this week. The Ohio Valley lives and breathes prep football. This is as good as it gets, as the survivor will punch a final four ticket. The communities of Bridgeport and Shadyside are abuzz, feverishly awaiting Friday night's contest at St. Clairsville, which will see an overflow and rabid crowd. It is a game which will attract football fans with no allegiance to either school, as it is a local happening. Regardless of the outcome, it will go down as one of the most memorable games in valley archives. Their is only one downside to such a big night, one team will be packing up the uniforms, unable to extend their outstanding season. ANOTHER intriguing matchup plays out across the river as Bishop Donahue and Wheeling Central meet in the second-round of the West Virginia state playoffs. The Bishops and Knights create a similar sense of excitement on that side of the river. BD is 11-0 while the Knights are 7-4 with numerous state grid titles on their resume. The winner will be the favorite to capture the state championship. Toss in the Wheeling Christmas Parade and the OUE girls' basketball preview Friday night, local residents will have no reason to sit at home.
