How I Cure My Winter Blues

January 17, 2011 - Kim Collette
What a great time of the year it is.....for a television junkie like me! Weather outside frightful? No big deal to me. I just hunker down in my house, get under a cozy fleece blanket and curl up on the couch and watch some the most "entertaining" television you can find.

In the winter months, everyone usually feels the "blahs". And I am no exception! So....what do you ask do I do to shake that "blah" feeling? Easy answer....reality television shows! Don't get me wrong, I watch "normal" shows during this time too. I always have time for shows like Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Criminal Minds. But sometimes those shows aren't always the happiest. So, I turn to reality tv know the ones that when you are watching you know it's like watching a train wreck, but just can't stop watching!

Here are some of my "can't help but crack up at" tv shows that help cure my winter blues.

Toddlers and Tiaras. My take on T & T....moms who are trying to live vicariously through their daugthers. They are forced into beauty pageants and all that goes with them. There is spray tanning, fake eyelashes, manicured nails, makeup and lots of money spent! The last episode I caught, the mother was very adamant that her daughter was one day going to be next Miss America, she started her in pageants at the age of 6 months! It's hysterical to watch the moms be bossed around by the beauty queens....who are all of 4 years old or so.

Jersey Shore. It's season 3 and the Shore Kids are still going strong. In fact, they actually set an all-time MTV series record for viewers. If that many people are can't be all bad....right? What other show that you watch has characters like Snooki, The Situation, DJ Pauly D and JWoww? This dysfunctional "family" is laugh out loud funny. In fact tonight's episode, "Where's the Beach?" includes Snooki losing the beach, boardwalk run, infamous arrest and rant against the Police. (On a side note, in an interview on The Today Show about the incident, Snooki said that she is too pretty for jail!) How can you not giggle?? This is a silly tv show.

The Bachelor. I know that this show isn't meant to be funny, but in recent seasons, it has become a laugher for me. The lengths that some of the women go to to "win" the bachelor is crazy. And, it cracks me up that these women after knowing so said "Guy of the Season" fall madly in love in less than 2 months. Seriously? This year's installment is setting up to be even better. Brad, the bachelor, was the bachelor once before and famously chose no one. And I am supposed to believe he found love this time?! We shall see, but I will laugh all the way to the final rose ceremony.

Those are three shows that usually shake my winter blues right away. If they don't work, I have others to fall back on. There is Full Throttle Saloon, Hardcore Pawn, Storage Wars and American Chopper. Just make sure when you watch these shows, you don't expect to learn would ruin the "shake the winter blues experience!"

Until next time friends!
