Boys of Summer
April 1, 2011 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
PLAY BALL. Major League Baseball is now under way. Starting the regular season in March is a bit early, especially in Midwestern winter-ravaged locales. With that as a cold backdrop, I like the Phillies and Red Sox to meet up in the Word Series. In a short series, the Phils will be tough to beat as they can trot out four big-time starters. While Philadelphia will reign supreme, we believe the team on the other side of the Keystone State will make a major step forward this season. The Pirates have done a masterful job of ushering in young talent, oozing with potential. Staying healthy combined with some capable starting pithing and the youthful Buccos should begin ascending up the National League Central ladder. I still see the Reds as the team to beat in the Central. The Redlegs shocked the baseball world by winning the title in 2010 and should do it easier this time around, thanks to young stars like Joey Votto. Things don't look as rosy on the lakefront as the Indians are destined to again spin their wheels in mediocrity. The Tribe lacks star power and has no game plan for building a competitive outfit.
