Yet another soggy blog
April 25, 2011 - Michael Palmer
Here we go again, and I apologize for the theme, but this will be one of the wettest April’s on record and there is little else to talk about, unless it would be the copious amount of May flowers the rains will bring.
The OVAC baseball playoffs are on an extended rain delay and with the forecast; it is becoming a very tense waiting game for the number three and four seeds.
Some teams, like Weirton Madonna did not qualify because they played too few games and teams like Linsly may have played too many and lost on the wrong nights. Both teams will probably do very well in the W. Va. state playoffs but their OVAC worries are over.
All of the following games were postponed and rescheduled from Saturday and now will be re-rescheduled in hopes that the three and four teams will get their chance to knock off the higher seed. (However, if they cannot be played the top two seeds will automatically advance.)
CLASS 4-A #1 Steubenville vs. #4 John Marshall #2 Cambridge vs. #3 Indian Creek CLASS 3-A #1 Edison vs. #4 Bellaire #2 Magnolia vs. #3 St. Clairsville CLASS 2-A #1 Shadyside vs. #4 Shenandoah, #2 Fort Frye vs. #3 Barnesville CLASS 1-A #1 Toronto vs. #4 Hundred #2 Bishop Donahue vs. #3 Cameron
Softball is also in semi-finals mode and this Tuesday was to be the beginning of their playoffs.
Despite a headline declaring they were back, it is a disappointing week for the best turnaround story of the season, Bellaire softball.
The OVAC web site shows that Martins Ferry edged the Big Reds out of the playoffs. They were scheduled to begin in West Virginia tomorrow.

The extended does look good for a late week frenzy of games:
Today: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

The OVAC baseball championship finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2011 at a tarp covered and usually playable Vaccaro Field in Steubenville and should be played.

While the weather is disappointing, the crowds for baseball and softball have been a disappointment all season, once again.
If the sun comes out, why not load up the lawn chairs, sunflower seeds and some SPF 40 and head out for some high school diamond action. It will be fun; I also guarantee that it beats staying at home and watching ‘pro’ baseball on the tube.
