OVAC/MAC Clash of Champions

The 13th annual OVAC vs. MAC Wrestling All-Star Match is under way at East Liverpool High School. The first bout of the evening went to the MAC as Brian Scritchfield decisioned the OVAC's Ed Lehotay by a 4-1 count, giving the MAC the early 3-0 lead.
At 112 pounds, the OVAC got on the board when Brooke High's Brent Fluharty recorded a 6-2 decision over Blackhawk's Jason Markus .
At 119 pounds, Mountour's Stephen Fullwood posted a 7-5 win over Buckeye Local's Mike Kenjorsky, giving the MAC the 6-3 lead in the match. At 125 pounds, Mars High's Luke Selker continued the trend for the MAC, decisioning Cambridge High's four-time state qualifier by a 9-2 decision.
The OVAC recorded back-to-back victories at 125 and 130 pounds. East Liverpool's Cagney Springer recorded a pin at 125 and Martins Ferry's Derrick Holt was a 9-0 major decision winner over Montour's Rocco Ragano, which put the OVAC up in the team race by a 13-9 count.
The meet's first overtime match of the evening came at 135 pounds where Edison's Andy Stine and West Allegheny's Zach Kelly hooked up. Stine was awarded a stalling call just before the end of regulation and then recorded a take down 58 seconds into the extra session.
The OVAC winning streak continued at 140 when Beallsville's Jimmy Reisz prevailed over Moon's Ryan Taylor by a 4-2 count. The MAC stopped the winning streak at 145 pounds when Dominick Demor of South Side prevailed over Nick Stine by a 8-3 score.
Bridgeport's Bryan Skoff notched a victory for the OVAC at 160 pounds, posting a 4-1 decision over Mark Vuono of West Allegheny.
Cambridge's Chad Teague notched a major decision over South Side's Justin Herder at 171 pounds by a 10-1 count. His Bobcat teammate Kirk Wetherell slammed Montour's Rob neider for a pin just a minute into the match. Wetherell's pin put the OVAC up 35-12 in the team scores, which sealed the deal for the OVAC squad.
Caldwell's Derrick Hesson and West Allegheny's were locked up at zero entering the final period, but Hesson scored a quick escape, making it 2-0 in favor of the OHSAA state runnerup. Hesson made that score stand up for the win.
Brooke's Drake Kowcheck and Hopewell's Kraig Smith locked up in the final match of the evening. Kowcheck took a 3-2 lead early in the third period on an escape and went on for a 5-2 win. The OVAC has won the match by a 41-12 score.
