Love Him or Hate Him....He Finally Won!

May 19, 2011 - Kim Collette
Love him, or hate him, "Boston" Rob Mariano finally won his Sole Survivor title. Boston Rob has competed on "Marquesas," All-Stars," "Heroes Vs. Villians," and finally on this season's "Redemption Island." It might have taken him four attempts and 117 days, but he finally did it! And, how he did it was stuff of reality t.v. legends.

Jeff Probst, the host of the Survivor series, said it was as "close to a perfect game as anybody's played." Boston Rob, in my eyes, truly did play a perfect game. So much so that in the dreaded "Final Jury" (where voted out castaways get to question the final 3) one of the jury members actually addressed the jury and not the 3 remaining players. That jury member pretty well summed up Rob's game play.....He did everything, He controlled all of you. He controlled your minds.

In the 22 seasons of Survivor, I have never seen anything quite like it. Boston Rob had complete control of the game. At one point when the two tribes had already merged, he actually controlled when his allies could eat. Really? These were adults totally buying into every word Rob spoke. It truly was amazing....if you were a Boston Rob fan or not. Yes, he is considered a "villian." Yes, he is somewhat arrogant. And YES, he knows how to play this game. He kept multiple alliances, he found the hidden immunity idol, he won four individual immunity challenges and calculated the demise of most of the season's castaways, including some of his own allies.

There were no boundaries for Boston Rob while playing the game. Survivor is a game to Rob, not a microcosm of the real world. He played to outwit, outsmart and outplay. He did what he needed to do to win. And...he did just that. It's too bad though...I doubt we will ever see Boston Rob play again. And definitely will never see a smarter player.

Until next time friends.
