Smoking babies or simply: Where can we pick up our awards?Fri, July 2, 2010 @ 12:30PM The Buds hate to brag. Really. We are all for the modesty ... But, sometimes ... they can’t help but to notice what great parents they really are, if only by comparison. It’s not that our kids NEVER do ANYTHING wrong, heck, just last week Bud Em caught her teeny bopper chugging milk straight from the carton. Bad manners? Yes. Disgusting for all the other milk drinkers in the house? Absolutely! But is it unbelievable? Not at all. Bet your kid’s doing it right now. Will it lead to an early demise? Of course not! This brings us to our point ... What is up with the smoking baby? (If you don’t know what we’re talking about, climb out from under that rock and Google it right now!) This adorable little bundle of joy has been smoking two packs a day!! We don’t know what to say, except - HOW does this happen? According to a report from cbsnew.

2,470Fri, August 27, 2010 @ 3:47PM 2,470 that's how many days it has been since Michigan's last victory over Ohio State. 2,470. That still means something to us in the Buckeye State. That's almost 7 years! It's "the game" that I look forward to each season. It's the Scarlett & Grey versus the Maize & Blue. It's everything! And now with the Big 10 conference expanding to 2 divisions and adding a league championship game there is talk of moving the OSU/Michigan game to October. Seriously? That would be a travesty of the utmost proportions! That would be like having Christmas in July. That would be like playing Hockey in th summer sun and 90 degree weather. It's just not right and I just don't like it. Don't the powers to be get that they are messing with 100 years of football tradition? Ugh! Case in point. Ohio State and Michigan have played football since 1897.

A book burning? Seriously?Mon, August 30, 2010 @ 9:12PM The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida has planned a book burning of The Quran, the Islamic faith's holy text, on the anniversery of Sept. 11. Really, what is this going to accomplish? I'm as strong in my faith as the next Christian and I've never felt compelled to burn the printed symbol of another religion's basis of faith. While I don't agree with many of the teachings of Islam, I respect people's right to follow their own path, as should we all. It's not only disrespectful to another religion, it's wrong on a moral and personal note. What good could come from this twisted version of honoring the memory of those that passed on Sept. 11. Will it bring them back? Will it give their families peace? It's certainly not going to do anything to improve communication and understanding between the faiths. I'm sure the average Muslim won't look on it too kindly. And I can just imagine the response from the extremists.

Grid OpenersMon, August 30, 2010 @ 8:50AM Just one game can reveal a lot about prep grid teams. It was a given that Steubenville is a cut above the remainder of the OVAC. That was reinforced by the Big Red's 36-0 spanking of Inkster, Mich. Opening-week victories also cemented the fact that Martins Ferry, Bridgeport, St. Clairsville, Brooke, Wheeling Central and some others may be as good as advertised. Others like Shadyside and Barnesville, meanwhile, stamped themselves as teams that could be major players this fall. The Tigers thumped Beallsville much easier than expected while the Shamrocks rallied against big-time foe John Glenn. Both triumphs may prove a springboard to much more success in 2010. Question marks abound for several teams. Union Local prevailed but had a much more difficult time than expected against Meadowbrook. One uncertainty looms at Monroe Central. The Seminoles are poised for a big season if they can get and then stay healthy.

Football is BACK!Sat, August 28, 2010 @ 4:43PM Just in case you forgot how important high school football is in the Ohio Valley, this past weekend should have been a reminder. There were kick off events Thursday night that began the 2010 season. Friday night I spent 15 minutes in a traffic jam in Byesville, no orange cones, just fans of high school football waiting impatiently to get into the game. The delay was impressive for a school that went 2-8 last season and speaks of how the fans in this area feel about high school football. The Union Local band and cheerleaders were stuck in traffic and missed the opening kick off, fortunately I arrived early enough that I made it in time. After the first quarter I was off to St Clairsville where the community christened a new stadium Friday night. It is an impressive facility, and so many members of the alumni, business and local community were involved in making the dream a reality and many were on hand to witness opening night.

Football Under WayTue, August 31, 2010 @ 8:41AM It's official, football season is here and unfortunately, Major League Baseball takes a spot on the backburner. I know I am in the minority in that belief, but I, like everyone else, am entitled to my opinion. Anyway, enough of that mini diatribe. During the first week of the prep football season, we saw very few surprises, hence me finishing 13-0 on the weekly T-L Pick Parade. Not bragging, just pointing out that many of the games during the opening week were cut and dry. Obviously, the season will get a little tougher to predict as it goes on because injuries and a lot of different factors will eventually pop up in the conversation during the next nine weeks. It was a good opening week, a lot of pagentry, impressive numbers and a chance to learn a little more about what many expect to be a fairly balanced season amongst a lot of teams. Many people asked me during the summer, who the best team in the area was going to be.
