MIKE JAMISON, Ohio operations director of Rosebud Mining, and Judy Kerr, manager of administration, discuss business at the conference table of the company’s office in Cadiz. Rosebud Mining has purchased the former Coffey Building on the northeast corner of Main and Market streets on the town square. Plans are currently in the works to open a underground mining operation in Franklin Township in Harrison County.
CADIZ - It has been years since coal was king in Harrison County, but the arrival of a new company hopes to put the “black diamonds” back in the limelight.
Rosebud Mining, a Pennsylvania-based company owned by C. Clifford Forrest, has opened an office for its Ohio operations and is looking to open a new underground mine in addition to the Tusky Mine in southeastern Tuscarawas County under ownership of the company since June in 2005.
Mike Jamison, Ohio operations director, said the move to Harrison County was natural for the company.
“Cliff knows the industry,” Jamison said. “He built Rosebud from the ground up and understands what it takes to be a success. Operating mines in this area fits nicely into his plans.”
“We knew of the strong work ethics and rich coal history in Harrison County and believe we can be a part of bringing the coal mining industry back,” said Forrest.
