Shadyside ready for second season
After sustaining a 36-35 overtime setback to Zanesville Rosecrans on the 25th of September, Mark Holenka and his Shadyside Tigers were a dismal 1-4. Obviously, there would be no postseason talk around Tigertown this season. However, the Bengals suddenly breathed new life following a 25-12 week six upset of Barnesville’s Shamrocks. The Orange responded by traveling to Canfield where they took apart Youngstown Christian, 43-14. A third consecutive triumph followed at Toronto setting up a key week nine showdown at Fleming Field against Bridgeport. Holenka’s club not only lost that game, the Tigers were beaten into 26-0 submission. That left a Halloween afternoon regular season finale on the home front against Holy Cross out of Kentucky. Shadyside came out of that scrap a 28-7 winner and later learned practice was destined to continue. At 5-5, Holenka and his team are week 11 participants, continuing a successful decade of excellence for the Orange & Black.
