Area coaches react to new OHSAA rule
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first in a three-part series getting local coaches, athletic directors and officials take on the new OHSAA policy regarding ejections. The second and third portions will appear in Monday and Tuesday’s papers, respectively.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association is all about sportsmanship. So much so that it’s adopted the motto of ‘Respect the Game.’
However, in recent years and in certain sports there seems to be a concern that the motto isn’t being followed very closely, which is leading to a rash of ejections of coaches and/or players.
Trying to combat the problem, the OHSAA has taken matters into its own hands. At the April 3 Board of Control meeting, the board approved changes to the Ejection Policy for Unsporting Conduct for Coaches.
In the past a coach and/or player ejection led to a suspension of one game in football and two games in other sports.
