Lawn & Garden Part 2

Spring is here, believe it or not!

May 2, 2008

By Harriett Miklas, T-L Garden Editor

It’s true, bet you thought it would never make an appearance.
We’ve had snow, sleet, and rain, sometimes separately, other times all in one day. You could probably count on one hand the number of bright, sunny days since January.
The landscape is littered with grays, many shades of brown, cream, with maybe a few green evergreen boughs. Here and there, a dirty patch of snow hides from the “sun’’ waiting for temperatures to reach 32 degrees.
A few tulip leaves have broke the surface of  my flower beds, their dark green leaves hardly noticeable against the dark brown of last summer’s mulch.
The pale beige patch of dried saw grass blossoms and the dried stalks of coneflowers, bee balm, and coreopsis dot the flower beds waiting for a spring hair cut.
