First hurdle cleared for revitalization effort

SHADYSIDE OFFICIALS are looking to transform the interior section of Central Avenue into a park-like atmosphere.
THE VILLAGE of Shadyside could be getting a new look, with major renovations to Central Avenue and the median strip beginning in 2011 if a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation is approved.
Shadyside was once an important stop along the narrow gauge railroad lines that served the area, Today the village is looking to recapture some of that old time charm of the railroad days working with the Ohio Riverfront Task Force to build a health and culture trail along the Ohio River front.
In December, the village of Shadyside cleared the first hurdle regarding the plans to transform the “Loop” into a median park when it was announced that the Ohio Department of Transportation has selected the village’s proposal for funding, one of four such projects selected by the state.
The first phase of the project is estimated to cost between $1.1 to $1.2 million.
