What a waste of time, effort, money, and a very poor reflection on Mr. Flanagan. Please stop the nonsense..................................

This is totally ridiculous!!! Sheriff Lucas was validated by all the channels that he needed to be validated by. Dick Flanagan is a sore loser and is attempting to gain office by slandering Sheriff Lucas! He wasn't wanted in there by the voters of Belmont County!! He needs to leave it alone!

To me it doesn't matter who got the most votes and who won the election, if the person who got the most votes may not have been qualified to run for that position in the first place. Personally I want this to continue playing out and get resolved. If Lucas is found to have the qualifications, he stays. If not, he goes. Simple as that. Moreso, if it's discovered that he lied or didn't tell the entire truth when he applied to run as sherrif (such as his home in Florida that was conveniently left off the application), he should be fully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

In short, how can you elect the chief law enforcement officer of the county and expect him to be an example to all other law enforcement in that county, if he doesn't even have the qualifications or the right to be in that position and possibly got it by being disingenuous.. Let's let the investigation take place...

If Lucas was considered a valid candidate because Sargus didn't do her job, then not only should he be removed for having not been qualified but she should also be sanctioned. Just because Lucas got more votes does not mean he should be in office if he was not a legal candidate. I cannot believe all who want to go along with the system just because they're too ignorant to understand the law.

Don't forget, when repeated claims were made against Lance Armstrong, lots of people kept saying "Enough already, leave the guy alone, he won and after repeated accusations, he's always been found innocent". Before it was over, the evidence was clear and he admitted his guilt on worldwide TV. In this case, similar accusations have been made by several people, including Fred Thompson, the former sheriff who should know more than anyone if Lucas had served recently enough with the Belmont Co. Sheriff's Dept. to qualify him to run. I agree with BPT, let this be investigated completely and then put it to rest.

My feelings are if Mr. Lucas was improperly on the ballot then he should be removed. Go back to work..put your time in and run again. I also feel that if it is found that he was improperly on the ballot that it also wouldn't be fair to Sherriff Thompson because he did run for sherriff in the primary. To properly resolve it if Sherriff Lucas is removed we would have to have a special election to be fair to all parties not just to Mr. Flanagan. at which time we would have to put Thompson back in office if he would accept until the special election or appoint an interim sherriff from the dept until the special election. In other words thompson has a right to run for the office if he chooses to in a special election.

Wow people you amaze me! 1st Flanagan is paying for this whole thing himself.2nd Thompson brought this to light before the election an was shoot down because he was opp party to Lucas. 3rd It'snot up to A county judge to certify anyone. Do your home work Belmont county.. It took me ten mins to look up taxes paid on a house in FL that Lucas owns actually two propteries! I'm a ta payer and want to know that our Sheriff is qualified. Not just Lucas saying a judge said I'm ok so Thats that! Are you kidding me? I want proof! And this case should no be taken lightly! If he isn't qualified and is arresting people aren't those arrest false now? That's something I'm worry about. Is a rapest going to go free BC our board and judges didn't do background check on Lucas an let him be on the ballot... Think ppl! If he is fine but if he isn't????

If you are not allowed to run for office to begin with, it doesn't matter how many big government liberals and party lemmings you get to vote for you or rubber stamp your papers, you are STILL not allowed to hold office!!

Election fraud is in fact ILLEGAL!!

Well, in the end lets hope that no matter what the voters get to express their opinion. I for one would not want "Dick" Flanagan for sheriff, and i voted accordingly. I see that there is no claim that Lucas is not capable of effectively serving as sheriff only that "Dick" and his cousin are stating there may be some sticking points on his qualifications may have expired. Fred Thompson was "Qualified" to hold the office but was a horrible excuse for leadership in that office. "Dick" could make Fred look like a superstar. Maybe dick should try leading the police department he works for now for an extended period of time so we can be sure he can be a leader. If Dae is not ruled to be able to hold this office then the voters should have an opportunity to choose a qualified candidate via a special election.
