March 2, 2013

BYESVILLE — Martins Ferry was a mere 16 seconds from seeing its season come to a painful end at Meadowbrook Friday night in a Division III sectional co-final....

PurpleRider12...You must not be following my comments very well so I'll try to spell things out more clearly for you. I live in Belmont County and have attended almost all of St Clairsville's football and basketball games for the past several years. With that said, I don't think it's accurate for anyone to say that I've hopped on the St C band wagon ... not recently anyway! As for Fort Frye, I've only been to a handful of their (boys and girls) basketball games this year. I watch a lot of boys and girls basketball games (and different teams) - especially during the high school tournaments. I happened to see both the boys and girls Fort Frye vs Martins Ferry tournament games this year. Each school won one game against one another which means both schools are 1-1 against one another. The boys basketball team that I follow most closely (St C) is 2-0 against MF this year (in case I forgot to mention that).

JPC1965... St.C. should be fun to follow since you have to hop on someone's band wagon now. Yes, I realized that St.C. beat MF twice, so?? As far as I'm concerned, we're 2-0 with a win over Fort Frye! GO RIDERS!!

PurpleRider12...There's no time for shining up the Cadillac yet. I'm still busy following the St C Red Devil boys and the Fort Frye girls. By the way, in case you didn't realize it, the St C boys beat the Purple Riders twice during the regular season and the Fort Frye girls beat your Purple Riders by about 50 in sectional play last week.

JPC1965...since you want to be proper in spelling and grammar, I'm quite certain you meant to say "one of the refs" rather than "one if the refs"!! Have a nice off-season! GO RIDERS!!

After hearing about what Coach Sabatino said and did to Fort Frye's Shon Smith at the end of the Fort Frye / Martins Ferry basketball game, the Martins Ferry school district really should be looking for a new head coach. This guy has no business being a coach. He should be ashamed of himself. What exactly was it that you said about "paybacks" coach?

PurpleRider12...Seeing how you weren't there to witness the game, I can tell you from firsthand account that one if the refs was blatantly biased toward MF and one must have had plans after the game so he wasn't calling anything (including the countless times the big MF players "set up camp" in the lane). The other ref was fair and good. As for your attempt at being funny about the Beverly Hillbillies ... I thought you might find it interesting to know that I actually got into my Cadillac and drove back to my home in Belmont County after the game. By the way, it should be "their team" not "there team". So much for that fine fine Martins Ferry "edgeukashun" you received.

Glad to see the outcome of this game as I read the article this morning from my home in Columbus. I'm sure it was a blue collar effort by MF. Always hate to see a ref not make a call but I'm sure there were other opportunities for both teams throughout the game to make other shots to help there team. Only one more thing to the tune of the old tv show Beverly Hillbillies "Just load up your bus and go back to Beverly" GO RIDERS!!

Coach Sabatino: As a teacher of young people, don't you think it's time for you to take the "high road", show some leadership, and stop whining about Cody Schau not being selected as D3 Eastern District Player of the Year? Accept the fact that Fort Frye's Shon Smith is the D3 Player of the Year and quit trying to take that away from him. He not only received the honor but deserves it. You questioning the PotY decision is the equivalent of me telling you that your team didn't deserve the win against Fort Frye because it was obvious that one of the refs was blatantly biased toward Martins Ferry throughout the night AND your team would have almost certainly lost the game if it weren't for the "no call" on the BIG body foul that your player committed under the basket during the last Fort Frye shot of the game. Doesn't feel so good now does it?
