WHAT IS THE FATALITY RATE ON A RURAL INTERSTATE? Not in the article? Hmmm Here's some friendly facts: The fatality rate is 0.67 deaths on rural interstates -- FAR, FAR lower than rates up to 4.63 on other rural roads. Why are rates so high elsewhere? Fatal crashes are commonly side-impacts at intersections, head-ons into opposing traffic separated by only inches of yellow paint, and single-vehicles impaled on trees, poles, and run off sharp curves. All those hazards are 'designed out' of interstates, so they're the FASTEST, SAFEST, most FUEL-EFFICIENT roads. They have the lowest rates of so-called 'speed-related crashes'. They carry long-distance truckers, traveler, and tourists. They deserve a higher speed limit! now they will go 80!! the trucks will be more dangerous!! watch out for those recap tires on the rear of those rigs passing you @ 70 to 80 mph, they will take out a windshield,i had a recap take out the whole suspension @ me traveling 65 mph & the trucker passing!! he didn't notice a thing?? they should keep big trucks in one lane @ a slower speed & no passing.
