Taste Buds: Perkins

Buds find plenty to love at restaurant/bakery

July 11, 2013

Last week, while Bud Em was enjoying what was left of her ‘stay-cation’, the Buds decided to meet for lunch so the two could catch up on all the juicy office gossip Em had been missing....

I agree that these columns are overly enthusiastic. I understand the Buds do not want to offend the establishment, but I too, have followed some of their recommendations only to find my experience very disappointing.I also agree that they are not at all in tune with the economics that many readers have in this area. The lunch reviewed in this column would be $25.00 plus tax and a tip and a beverage was not mentioned. How many people drop that kind of money on a lunch for two? That would mean a five day work week lunch expenditure would approximately $150.00.Not in my category for sure.

Talapia????? Really? Garbage! There is no one fish known as Talapia. It is a name given to many species of fish known as chichlid fish. : any of a family (Cichlidae) of mostly tropical spiny-finned usually freshwater fishes including several kept in tropical aquariums Basically Garbage fish. Yes, they are now farm raised, but you should know where it is farmed at. China? Taiwan? Where is Perkins Talapia farmed at? This, is something that the readers should research before eating. Talapia and Swai Fish( once served to unknowing customers at a local fish market) should be banned from the US market.Swai might be OK if farm raised in the US, but a lot of it comes from Viet Nam and is very dangerous.

Do the Buds ever not like anything? These reviews would be much more beneficial to the reader if they were more balanced. The efficiency, helpfulness and knowledge of the wait staff should also be reviewed. The reviews also are always overly positive; they need to be directly honest. If the service is slow and the food needs work, please tell us that. As someone who eats out quite frequently, I have tried many of the places that consitently get raving reviews from the Buds. Some of the time, they are right on the money. But, a lot of the time, the food and service is not good. The readers want to know what is both good AND bad about these restaurants. The benefits of this would be two-fold: 1) the restaurants would have the opportunity to receive constructive criticism so that they could improve their food and service and thus, increase revenue and 2) the readers would be more trustworthy of the Buds opinions and more apt to try restaurants they recommend.
