Dear Editor, I am writing this letter on behalf of my son who served 20 years in the US Navy, retired, and was honorably discharged and who I feel is entitled the Ohio Veterans Bonus Program....

Sounds like the law needs rewritten. If while in the military he maintained his Ohio residency, paid Ohio taxes, I think he should receive the bonus.

The bill states he must be a resident to get the's pretty simple. It's not a federal law. I agree..he deserves it but he doesn't live here.

I think he should be paid back the taxes then! And why should he move back to Ohio when they aren't willing to honor him with the bonus?? He likely won't find a good-paying job anyway, so yeah, move back to poverty and be denied the bonus anyway. My dad and husband both served in the Navy so I feel I'm entitled to my opinion. Thanks to your son for his selfless service to keep us all safe =)

I sort of agree with you but this law is a law for Ohio residents. I just read the eligibility requirements and it clearly states you must have been a resident at the time the service started and at the time of application for the bonus. when you start bending and twisting the law for certain people then you open a can of worms and lawsuits unfortunately. I agree he deserves the bonus but if he wants to come back to Ohio it's here for him.
