If the mayor and council would stop paying $75k per year for Neffs to provide full-time, paid fire and EMS for this village, and go with a volunteer/part time paid department like most every other village in the area, they could afford to hire 1 or 2 more officers.

And what would that prove? Nothing. They had other officers there and it still happened. Whether it's Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement they all have one thing in common: they are all dangerous to the point where lives can be injured or killed whether your staffed with 6 personnel or 60. Public safety should never be cut...PERIOD. As soon as an ambulance, firetruck or police car fail to show up within a reasonable amount of time because of said cuts then people will complain about that. Instead of being reactive about it you might want to consider being proactive. Make calls, send letters to your politicians, etc. or better yet convince people to pass a levy to provide the necessary funding to provide more staffing. If these answers do not satisfy you then feel free to step up, take Fire and EMT training then join your local department and help them provide coverage that is provided to YOUR family in YOUR time of need; not theirs. Wouldn't hurt to say thank you once in a while either!

I agree with valley guy, Bellaire still operates like a city when it is a village on decline. The town still zones its sections which in actually hurts the bottom line. If your so smart fireman read "Death and Life of Great American cities" by Jane Jacobs. Many cities have used this book as a diagram how to improve their own city. Bellaire is a dangerous city who doesn't like outside business and picks on its the lower half of society but lets the upper tier do as they please.

Right on, Fireguy09.

OhValleyguy: And how much would a volunteer/part time paid EMS department cost? It's not just salaries, right? Vehicles, equipment, training, etc. TommyGun: so the answers are in a BOOK?!? That is really pathetic and not worthy of commentary. Liberals believe if the rest of the world would just let them take charge with their superpower minds, then everything would be just peachy. Problem is, someone has to do the heavy lifting.
