This probably should have been posted sooner: I spoke with people who were there. This was NOT about the dog being put on the internet. The visitors were told that the dog did not have a record at the shelter. No name, no number. Nothing was known about the dog other than what was obvious and that the dog was scheduled to be euthanized.

There was no attempt to find the owners because it was PRESUMED that they put the dog in this condition. THE DOG WAS NOT CONFISCATED. It was found by someone lost on a ridge.

As to the dog's condition, she is doing fine with her new local adopter. The shelter was attempting to transfer this dog over 200 miles (at county/shelter expense) to a rescue in MD. If she truly was too ill to be adopted, she was too ill to travel that far.

Vaccines aren't "live". They are dead or attenuated. Considering the dog's age, spaying to prevent breeding isn't needed.

This shelter has needlessly taken too many pets from their rightful owners, euthanized many animals unnecessarily, and committed countless other violations. It's time for Belmont Co. taxpayers and voters to take control of this situation! Call/write/email the Belmont Co. Commissioners and tell them it's time for a group other than BCARL to operate OUR animal shelter the humane and legal way!!!

I had to call the shelter MANY times to complain about animal cruelty that they ALREADY knew that things werent right. Nothing was being done. I called Columbus to report what was going on.They in turn put some pressure on the shelter to look into my complaint, the problem FINALLY got resolved ONLY because i keep on their backs.Unless you pressure these people, they wont do anything unless FORCED to do.All the have to do if a person wont abide to the rules is to get a deputy and take him with them,Simple as that, and IF the owner of the animal wont abide to the rules, they get arrested. How easy is that?
