UNCOMMONSENSE

The entire "all our eggs in one basket" 911 approach is a joke and it leaves the entire county vulnerable in a disaster!

It is ALWAYS better to have LOCAL dispatchers who KNOW the area and KNOW the people in the town!

And there has NEVER been any "savings" with 911!

It now cost 10 times what it used to to provide radio coverage across the county!

The 911 system can be easily overloaded with high call volume during a area emergency event and one cut fiber optic cable and they are out of business!

SIX tower sites to do what just ONE was able to do in the past is another cruel joke on the taxpayers!

911 is simply a MASSIVE, and bloated money pit that keeps getting deeper!

They thought all that GRANT money was a great idea but the grants only BUY the initial eqipment

After that, the TAXPAYERS are stuck with the massive bill for maintaining and replacing it!

A few thoughts:

1)Either these officers who went before council don't speak proper English, or this reporter didn't do a very good job typing out the story.

2) I find it interesting that nearly every other town in Belmont County has saved significant $$ by having their police/fire/EMS/public safety dispatched by Belmont County Central Dispatch/911, but for some reason it's not good enough for Martins Ferry?

3)The acting director of Belmont County 911 is a Martins Ferry resident, and is on the FD in that city. I don't think he's going to put his own family and extended family/friends at risk if his agency is trusted with the dispatching for the city that he and they live in.
