Sterling has been a racist for years, or he wouldn't have paid millions to get out of federal lawsuits for discriminating against blacks and minorities in his rental properties. But seriously, why did they wait so long to whine about him until now. Go to Time Magazine's website and read Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's column about the whole thing. It's despicable what Sterling said, but that audio tape was obtained illegally, with his mistress recording what he assumed to be a private conversation and then revealing it to the world. While Sterling's comments are disgusting, what she did was illegal. He should be suspended for being a racist, yes, but she should also be arrested for making an illegal recording of a private conversation. Like Kareem said "Shouldn’t we be equally angered by the fact that his private, intimate conversation was taped and then leaked to the media? Didn’t we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen’s privacy in such an un-American way?"

I'm not really much of a conspiracy theorist, but one has to question the clamor for his being forced to sell, while at the same time buyers are lining up like New York City apartment shoppers who watch the obituaries. Occam's Theory says the simplest explanation is likely correct.

RUZGIRL, I have to take issue a little bit with what you are saying. There is no room in society for bigots, thats known. It's also known that this guy hasn't recently changed his stripes with regard to racist statements. My issue is that his statements were uttered in the privacy of his own home, and he consented to being taped. We are on a slippery slope when we start punishing people for private comments. You can say he should have known she would do what she did, but it doesn't change the fact that we are now condemning a person in a very public way based on something he said inside his own four walls. It is far easier to jump on the bandwagon and call for his head. The harder course is defending someone's private statements especially when they are so egregious and distasteful. Was he setup so the NBA could get rid of him? Maybe. Look at the people popping up (coincidentally) saying they would like to buy the team.

I suppose that leaves out turley as a possible replacement for Sterling.

First of all, this was more than a "blunder". I'm pretty certain this wasn't the first time Sterling made such racist remarks. Second, the audio recording of him making his bigoted, racist remarks have been released to the media, so using the word "alleged" to describe the offense is quite the stretch. I realize the adjective has to be used for legal reasons... How disgusting for a man who has owned an NBA team for YEARS - a team in a league whose players are predominantly African-American - to make these kinds of comments or to even think the way he does! I mean, the guy is a total hypocrite: his girlfriend is part African American and Latin!!! He is 80 years old (or somewhere up there!), so that may explain away a very minute fraction of why he said what he said, but still!! I sincerely hope the NBA bans him from owning the team and finds a much more suitable candidate for ownership, preferably someone born in the 20th century with an open mind!!
