State 4-H trip, camp scholarships awarded

    Several local 4-H youth were recently awarded scholarships to state 4-H trips and camps. Each of these youth completed an application and interview with a selection committee for the opportunity to participate in a state 4-H trip or camp.  Thanks to the many local sponsors, listed below, whose support will give each of the selected recipients a partial or full scholarship, depending on the trip or camp. The trips and camps, you are supporting, are great opportunities for youth to focus on leadership skills, citizenship, community service, careers, education, and personal development. These fun and exciting leadership experiences also give the youth of Belmont County the opportunity to meet youth from across the state and also across the country. The following scholarships were recently awarded:


    4-H Sea Camp – full scholarship for $375 sponsored by Friendship Masonic Lodge #89, Hazen Masonic Lodge #251, Weyer Masonic Lodge #541 and Belmont County 4-H Council.  Scholarship recipients are: Andrew Burkhead, Morgan Large and Melissa Vannest.   


    4-H Citizenship Washington Focus – full scholarship for $925 sponsored by Belmont County Agricultural Society, Belmont County 4-H Council, St. Clairsville Lions Club,  St. Clairsville Ruritan and St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary.  Scholarship recipient is Lindsay Schafer.


    4-H Leadership Camp – full scholarship sponsored by Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau.  Scholarship recipients are Alex Schafer and Amanda Wahl.


    Ohio Forestry and Conservation Camp – full scholarship of $250 sponsored Belmont Soil & Water Conservation District.  Scholarship recipient is Paige Duffy.


    Ohio 4-H Shooting Education Camp – partial scholarship of $50 sponsored by Colerain Ruritan, Flushing Ruritan, and St. Clairsville Ruritan.  Scholarship recipients are: Sam Haverty, Alex Schafer, Lindsay Schafer, Andy Selmon, and Doug Stephens.


    Ohio 4-H Junior Shooting Education Camp – partial scholarship of $50 sponsored by Belmont-Bethesda-Morristown Rotary.  Scholarship recipients are: Eric Haverty and Arin Selmon.


    Ohio 4-H Teen Conference – full scholarship of $25 sponsored by Belmont County 4-H Council.  Scholarship recipients are Meg Mowrer and Jina Yu.
