Coal Campaign

POSTED: June 5, 2008

COMMUNICATION is a good thing. That is why we believe the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus Listening Tour is a worthwhile road show.

The tour came calling to the Ohio Valley this week, setting up shop in St. Clairsville. The forum promoted the benefits of clean coal technology and was spearheaded by one of Eastern Ohio's own in State Sen. Jason Wilson.

The local gathering was the second in a series of seven. With our area so closely tied to coal, we strongly support the efforts of the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus in touting the benefits of clean-coal technology.

Moreover, the Burger Plant in Shadyside is deeply involved as it will house a working carbon sequestration facility with First Energy. The state-of-the-art project is being produced by Battelle Institute in Columbus.

It's impact on the local and state economies is boundless. With a renewed need and a corresponding use of coal brings with it a renewed vitality to the Ohio Valley.

The Democratic Listen's Tour obviously finds receptive ears in this part of the state. We are an easy sell on coal.

We charge the traveling Democrats to continue to spread their message across the state, hoping along the way that more and more supporters engage the effort. It is a cause that needs to continue to mushroom.

Coal is king in Eastern Ohio; we commend the Democratic caucus for a royal effort in making the balance of the state aware of it.
