Bellaire probes car break-ins
By MICHAEL SCHULER, Times Leader Staff WriterBELLAIRE POLICE are again reminding residents and visitors to the village to keep their vehicle doors locked after a string of break-ins.
According to Bellaire Police Chief Michael P. Kovalyk, six vehicles were reportedly broken into from Sunday night through Monday. The majority of the break-ins were reported to have taken place on Frazier and Wagner avenues in the West Bellaire area of the village. One was reported to have happened on Elm Street in West Bellaire.
Items reportedly stolen include cell phones, a wallet and a car stereo.
Kovalyk said that to the best of his knowledge, none of the vehicle were locked and the items were in plain view.
"We just want to remind people to keep their vehicle locked and to not keep valuables in plain sight," Kovalyk said. "If you do have to leave something in your car, put it in trunk. Even if you are just going to the store or are going to be a away from your car for a minute, don't leave anything with value, like a purse, wallet, or cell phone in it."
Any one with information on the break-ins who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the break-ins is asked to contact the Bellaire Police Department at 676-3322.
