Shadyside council OKs permits

By MICHAEL SCHULER, Times Leader Staff Writer
POSTED: October 14, 2008

SHADYSIDE VILLAGE Council met for its regular meeting Monday, approving one major building permit and several minor ones.

No legislation was presented to council during the meeting.

Council also heard from two individuals, including Tara Smith, Child Passenger Safety Technician with the Belmont County Health Department.

Smith had earlier presented the Shadyside Police Department with a child's car seat and answered some questions from council members regarding the use of car seats. She also said that regardless of age, the back seat is the safest bet.

According to Smith, anyone who has a question regarding car seats or wants to have one inspected to make sure it is being used properly can call her at 740-695-1202.

Council also heard from a resident who thanked the council for its action to have a property owner tear down a dilapidated property.

Under department reports, Board of Public Affairs Trustee Todd Shau reported bids to repair a slip at the village's water reservoir have been opened and are in the process of being reviewed.

Councilman Bob Bell also reported receiving complaints of an odor coming from a manhole cover on 38th Street.

Shau said the odor was caused by a six inch tree root in the sewer line and that the problem has been fixed. He also said in the future, any concerns regarding water and sewer should be made to the Board of Trustees of Public Affairs.

Council received a letter from American Electric Power which thanked the village council, residents, police and fire departments for their cooperation during the three days of power outages last month as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Ike.

Trick or Treat for the village is scheduled for Oct. 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The next Shadyside Village Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
