Bridal show offers helpful nuptial tips

By CASEY JUNKINS, For The Times Leader
POSTED: October 27, 2008

WHEELING - Steubenville bride to be Jaime Dent picked up some good ideas for her upcoming celebration during the 2008 Wedding Bells Bridal Show Sunday at West Virginia Northern Community College.

"I did not realize there were so many services and products available around here. This is a very good event that I am glad I came to," she said of the show that was sponsored by The Times Leader, The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register, the Herald Star, the Weirton Daily Times and WVNCC.

During the third annual show, models showcased wedding fashions provided by Checkers Boutique and David's Bridal.

A myriad of vendors also provided samples of the goods and services they offer that can help make wedding days special. Vendors with booths at the event included Advanced Entertainment, Beauti Control, Bellisima, Diana's Cakes and Catering, DJ Brian Oliver, Elder Beerman, Generations, HH Artworks, Masterpieces of Old Town, Oglebay Resort, One Fine Day, The Paper Shack, Pierce Productions, River City, Southern Living at Home, Stratford Springs, Uniglobe Ohio Valley Travel and Wachovia. Checkers Boutique and David's Bridal also had stands to showcase their goods and services.

Alyson Poland of Uniglobe said the show was a good place to let brides know about available honeymoon packages.

"This is a great event for brides and their families to find out what options they have," she said.

Lynn Courts of The Paper Shack also enjoyed the event.

"This gives the brides an idea what they may be looking for," she said.

Pam Bennett, advertising director for The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register, said the show has been a tremendous success.

"Everyone puts in a lot of hard work to make this a successful event. We especially appreciate the efforts of the vendors, and we thank West Virginia Northern Community College for helping us," she said.

"This is a great event, and it is something we plan to continue doing," Bennett added.

Heidi Clark, advertising director for The Times Leader, said the show offered brides and guests a chance to exchange ideas, in addition to giving vendors an opportunity to show their products.

"We are very happy to be a part of this," she said.
