Monroe juveniles earn kudos
WOODSFIELD - Health insurance and a record-moving project which resulted in praise for juveniles on probation drew attention Monday during the Monroe County commissioners' meeting.
A decision is expected next Tuesday about health insurance for county employees.
Bob Tschappat of the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley recently had told commissioners that the renewal date for health insurance was nearing, and there would be a 34.6 increase in the Health Plan HMO and also quoted a 10.8 percent increase for the PPO. Since that time, he and county employees have been meeting with various plans discussed.
During Monday's discussion, a plan to lower the premium by increasing the deductible seemed to be favored by county officials, but no action was taken. About 15-20 employees and department heads were at the session.
The matter will be discussed further by employees, and Tschappat intends to be at next week's meeting when a decision might be made.
Drew Dimmerling, custodian at the courthouse, reported a lot of records which had been stored in various locations had been moved to a rental space and the former county home.
Dimmerling added that nine juveniles who are on probation helped with the moving, and they were very good workers. He added their help saved the county a lot of money.
Glen Schwaben, former sheriff who now is community service life skills coordinator, works with the juveniles on probation.
In other matters, Cory Driggs of Casto Technical Services, Charleston, presented a proposal for heating and air conditioning maintenance at the Monroe County Care Center. No action was taken as commissioners plan to study the proposal.
Driggs previously had been presented quotations for similar work at the Department of Job and Family Services as well as for the Monroe County Senior Center.
Bernie Kinder of the Buckeye Joint Insurance Counsel was present in regard to a proposed quotation for liability for 2009. No action was taken.
Commissioners and Jeanette Harter, who handles finances for the commissioners, worked on the 2008 budgets.
