Belmont Rehabilitation Center is the hospital-based rehabilitation unit that offers a full complement of rehabilitation services using a multidisciplinary, coordinated team approach.
“The unit is sized to allow for personal attention,” said Rehabilitation Coordinator Sandra Mellott. “The caring home atmosphere encourages our patients to move beyond their disabilities to achieve their maximum potential.”
The 28-bed rehabilitative nursing care unit has been designed and equipped to meet the special needs of the center’s clients. The unit has a fully equipped therapy gym that overlooks the Ohio River. Patients have access to modern kitchen and laundry rooms, featuring the latest equipment for training on a variety of daily activities.
Services provided by the treatment team include dietary planning, occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy, rehabilitation nursing, social work and discharge planning, speech language pathology, neuropsychological counseling, orthotics and 24-hour physician services.
One huge advantage Belmont Rehabilitation Center has is that it is located within an acute care hospital.
“Patients with acute medical problems can be treated without leaving the facility,” said physical therapy Director Patrick Storer. “The diagnostic facilities are located in the same building, and testing and/or medical treatment can be completed while therapy continues.”
Belmont Community Hospital is a Wheeling Hospital affiliate with a and staff of more than 150 physicians. It offers a full array of inpatient services including pediatrics, intensive care, orthopedic surgery, cardiac care, rehabilitation and mental health. The hospital also operates a 24-hour emergency department and has five surgical suites.
