Lodge honors local teens

KRISTEN McGARITY has been named the "Teen of the Month" award winner for the month of April by the Ohio River Valley Elks Lodge.

McGarity is the daughter of Kathy McGarity and a senior at Martins Ferry High School, holding a class rank of 2nd with a GPA of 4.359. She plans on attending college and getting a degree in the medical field.

Her school academics are impressive. Kristen holds memberships in National Honor Society, yearbook staff, Chy-Phy, Student Council and Spanish Club. She is on the Homecoming and Prom Committees, Chess Club, SADD, and Wrestling Little Sister.

Kristen volunteers at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Wheeling Soup Kitchen, Italian Festival, and the Soapbox Derby. She acts as a volunteer tutor at the high school. Her hobbies include painting, drawing and photography and traveling to new places.

The Elks would like to wish Kristen, Good Luck with her future plans. She will now be eligible to win a $2,000, scholarship for her college education.

THE LOCAL Elks Lodge would like to announce the "Teen of the Month" award winner for May is Shaila Meeker.

Meeker is a senior at Martins Ferry High School. She is ranked first in her class with a GPA of 4.462. She plans to attend college and earn her degree in Chemical Engineering. She likes to run, bike and word with photography.

Her activities include Cross Country, has memberships in the National Honor Society, yearbook staff, music theatre, student council, chorus, Chy-Phy and chorus.

She attends the Grace Presbyterian Church and volunteered for the Rotary and still volunteers for the Jr. ROTC. She also built up 69 hours of other community service.

Meeker now becomes eligible to win a $2,000 scholarship for her college education from the Grand Lodge of Elks. We wish her good luck with her future plans.
