The local chapter will receive recognition for their efforts from the state organization as Martin will accept a certificate of appreciation from the AARP Ohio state office in recognition of chapter’s outstanding service to its community at the next chapter meeting on May 28.
Presenting the chapter award will be Bill Demjan of Steubenville, an AARP Ohio advocacy volunteer leader who serves on the Ohio Congressional District 6 team.
“The St. Clairsville chapter is among the most active in the state,” Demjan said, noting the service to community, health fairs and voter education activities organized by the chapter, which is growing under Mrs. Martin’s leadership. He will present the award during the noon luncheon program being held at the JB Martin Center on the county fairgrounds in St. Clairsville.
In addition to the award, Demjan will present a program about the Health Action Now movement that is working to spur congressional action to reform health care.
“Right now we have the chance of a lifetime to reform health care,” Demjan said. “AARP believes all Americans of all ages, regardless of medical condition, should have affordable health care choices. We want Congress to act now to lower costs for everyone and provide a choice of health care plans they can afford to people who have no coverage.”
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, for blood pressure and hearing screenings before the meeting, which begins with lunch at noon. Luncheon reservations must be made by Friday, May 22, by calling
