June 9, 2009

Zoe Buccella of Barnesville received a superior rating at State Science Day for her “Winter Feeding theCantankerous Cardinals” zoology study. Although cardinals are often classified as ground-feeding birds, her study suggests that by using multiple platform feeding devices, cardinals prefer them to ground feeding at backyard feeding stations. Her study also won first place in zoology at the regional Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held at West Liberty University and a superior rating and zoology award at District Science Day held at Belmont Technical College. Her cardinal study has won awards from the United States Air Force, Navy and The Wildlife Society as well.
