STEUBENVILLE native and percussionist William DeLelles has been named a Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist winner and will be performing in Laredo, Texas this month as part of a marimba/percussion duet. DeLelles also placed first in the second Annual Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Modern Snare Drum Competition, in addition to being awarded the top rudimental drummer prize.
His percussive interests began at the age of three, when he would play the bongos along with classic rock recordings. He began classical percussion studies with Eliseo Rael in late 2007, and until then he was given only snare and drum-set lessons by his father.
DeLelles played two seasons with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, and toured China with them in the Summer of 2008. He also enjoys staying busy giving solo recitals, and playing in stylistically diverse ensembles. Currently, he is pursuing a bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Richard Weiner and Paul Yancich. His professional goals are to become an orchestral musician and multi-instrumental soloist.
