SOMERTON - Two people were able to jump out a bedroom window to safety when a fire occurred early today on Mann Ridge Road in the Somerton area, according to Barnesville Fire Chief Robert Smith.
The blaze, which was battled by three departments, occurred at the Mike Pedro home, 36800 Mann Ridge Road. Smith said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Pedro and his son reportedly were awakened by the fire, but were able to jump to safety. The fire call was received at 1:27 a.m., according to a spokesperson at Belmont County 911.
According to a report, one person was taken to a hospital, but this could not be verified prior to press time.
Units from volunteer departments in Somerton, Barnesville and Beallsville were at the scene until 3:38 a.m. The Salvation Army Canteen also was there.
A spokesperson at 911 said the fire rekindled about 6:55 a.m. and the Barnesville and Somerton departments responded. It was extinguished.
The Pedro home is near the county line between Belmont and Monroe counties, according to the fire chief.
