AKRON- Several charges were filed Monday against Jeffery Piorkowski, 17, of North Royalton, Ohio, the young man arrested following an Aug. 21 crash that took the life of 21-year-old Bellaire native Amanda Rosepapa.
Officials with the Akron Police Department revealed Piorkowski is facing some serious charges, including: murder, attempted murder, nine counts of felonious assault and kidnapping.
The kidnapping charge stems from the young women in Piorkowski's Honda Civic at the time of the accident near the campus of the University of Akron.
Piorkowski is currently being held in the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
According to police, Piorkowski was driving south of the Akron campus when his car veered onto a curb, hit a retaining wall and a police car before striking a crowd that included Rosepapa.
Piorkowski was driving in the area of Allyn Street and Irisdale Place when Akron police noticed he was driving without his lights on.
He fled after police attempted to pull him over for the violation.
Several policemen were already on the scene, responding to reports of a fight and were witnesses to the crash.
Rosepapa, a former standout softball player at St. John Central High School, passed away a few hours following the accident.
She was a student at Belmont Technical College, majoring in nursing while working at the Olive Garden Restaurant at The Highlands.
A benefit for the Rosepapa family was held Sunday at the Fairpoint Polish Club.
