Maggie’s birthday celebrated

October 20, 2010

SHADYSIDE — Maggie is not only a popular pet’s name, but it is the name of the Shadyside Care Center’s pet dog. Maggie was found by Polly Skapik, MDS nurse and Gary Phillips, Environmental Director, roaming around the facility several years ago. Afraid that she may wander onto Ohio 7, she was brought into the facility. Immediately, she won the hearts of the residents and employees and everyone agreed that Maggie should stay. Maggie goes from room to room to visit pet lovers and many residents and visitors spoil her with treats daily. How smart is Maggie? Well she is trained not to go into the kitchen or cafe. For Maggie’s 6th birthday, the employees and residents threw her a birthday party. Since her actual birthday is not known, residents celebrate her birthday on the day she was found. The party included gifts that will be donated to the Belmont County Animal Shelter. Gifts included food, treats, blankets, towels, toys and almost $90.00 in cash which were all donated in Maggie’s honor. Around 25 residents, employees, and volunteers plus Maggie’s best friend Sully attended. The event was celebrated with cupcakes, music and ice cream and Maggie even received her own cupcake. If you would like to donate in Maggie’s name, please contact the activity department at the Shadyside Care Center (740) 676-8381.
