BARB AND AL SMITH of Bridgeport, from left, entered into their first franchise agreement with Curves International Inc. recently and are preparing to unveil their new business venture to area women this Monday. Appointments for an initial visit are suggested and can be made by calling 740-738-0081. Curves Circuit Coachs Suzanne Drewett of Shadyside, center, Jordon Ford of Martins Ferry, right, and Elaine Hill, not pictured, also of Martins Ferry will be working with clients as they work out at Curves. During a weeklong grand opening celebration being held this Monday through Friday, the Smiths are offering a substantial discount to the first 100 customers who come into their Curves Circuit Club location at 853 National Road in Bridgeport. The Curves business location in Bridgeport is already familiar to fans of the Zumba dance and exercise program the couple established there some time ago. A specially designed coordinating schedule for Curves Circuit Club members who also enjoy Zumba classes will soon be announced.

The Bridgeport couple is entering into their first ever franchise venture with Curves International by adding the Curves Club Circuit Fitness and Weight Management Plan resource to the successful Zumba dance and fitness venture they have had in place at this same location for some time now.

The location is well known to area residents as it is adjacent to National Road and had previously been the location of the banquet facility: The Gateway Room.

The Smiths expect to host an official ribbon cutting ceremony Monday at 1 p.m. to officially kick off the first day and first week of their having the Curves business up and running.

"During the first week of business we will be offering a substantially discounted membership fee for the first 100 clients that come in to register between Monday and Friday," said Al Smith, owner.

They are looking forward to unveiling a unique schedule of programming designed to bring together the long proven benefits and outcomes of Curves International programming and the more recently popular Zumba program.

The new Curves Fitness and Weight Management Plan program the Smith's are opening in Bridgeport will be available on the following schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Curves International business picture has its roots in Texas, but has now branched out via franchise businesses and can be found in 65 countries worldwide, according to the Smiths.

One central factor in the renown success the Curves program has seen is built on the idea of establishing a uniquely "efficient fitness" approach to what has become known as the Curves 30 Minute Complete Workout.

The specific stations designed for Curves workouts are part of a unique set of workout equipment: CurvesSmart.

"Our state-of-the-art program, CurvesSmart, provides a customized workout that specifically meets your individual needs. Curves helps achieve your individual fitness goals, while burning up to 500 calories per workout and overloading every muscle group.

"For 30 minutes you move around the circuit, changing stations every 30 seconds. You do not need to rush to a specific class or worry about a time schedule. When you show up, your individualized workout begins. Just jump in anywhere you see an open station and then simply move at the same time and in the same direction as everyone else," said Barb Smith. "In Just 30 minutes, you can accomplish a total body workout, while accomplishing your fitness goals and achieving results."

"The world's most advanced fitness program, CurvesSmart, provides a precision-designed workout, making every 30 minute workout your best. This artificially intelligent system is programmed with everybody's own information and customizes each workout to meet your needs," she said.

"The CurvesSmart program puts you in control of your results. Your results are based on your effort. The program will continue to teach you about your body's potential and will provide a monthly progress report detailing calories burned, the progress of every muscle group individually.

The classic structure for the complete workout includes these key five components: warm up, cardiovascular training, strength training, cool down and stretching, explained Smith.
