May 1, 2011
By ROBERT A. DEFRANK - Times Leader Staff Writer , Times Leader

ST CLAIRSVILLE A counseling center with a spiritual aspect has opened its doors with the opening of Emmaus Road Christian Counseling Service.

Christopher Doud, owner, started the service February. Doud said a desire to help people motivated the endeavor. He has worked with people as a reporter in the early 2000s but wanted to help people in-depth. He is a licensed professional clinical counselor

"I'm a theologically trained clinical counselor with a degree from Columbia International University in South Carolina. This is my first practice, but I've been working with other agencies in the area since 2008," he said. "I just feel there's a definite need that's been voiced to me. More people in the area need a treatment with a theological twist as well."

Doud offers help for a variety of issues.

"I work with individuals and families dealing with depression, anxiety, family and marital issues as well as grief and loss issues," he said. "I've received quite a bit of interest. I do not accept insurance. I have a sliding fee scale based on income."

He will also make referrals as needed.

Doud is the sole counselor and owner, but if the service does well he may expand and employ a secretary.

"We're looking forward to seeing more people and being able to help people in the area," he said.

Doud's Christian counseling service is non-denominational and he accepts clients of all religions.

His office is located at 183 Main Street. Hours are evenings Tuesday-Friday, 5:30-8:30 p.m., all day Saturday. For more information, call (740) 338-2020 or visit the Web site www.erccs.com.
