WHEELING Starbucks coffee will soon be filling the cups of faculty, staff and students at Wheeling Jesuit University as a new campus coffee shop will soon open its doors. A ribbon cutting is planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday.
"With assistance from Parkhurst Dining Services, we are pleased to provide this new location for the whole campus community," said University President Richard A. Beyer. "In particular, the coffee shop will provide students with a new and comfortable place to gather without having to leave campus."
Free coffee will be given away during grand opening and Cardinal FM will be broadcasting live. Iggy, the university mascot, will be on hand to share a latte with those attending.
Sean Weaver, student government president, said the students are looking forward to the opening of the new venue.
"The coffee shop will be a great place to study and relax. We also have plans for open mic nights and comedy shows. The shop will offer a perfect venue for student clubs to meet or stage fundraisers," Weaver said.
In addition to serving Starbucks coffees and specialty drinks, other beverages, snacks, sandwiches and soups will be available.
Located on the ground level of Swint Hall, the campus coffee shop will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Friday and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be open to the public.
