WHEELING - The Friday, Dec. 16 edition of ArtWorks Around Town's Studio Gallery Coffee House will feature Irish folk band Black Slaney and local blues artist Adrian Niles.
Black Slaney plays a rousing mix of traditional Irish folk and acoustic roots music to create a sound all its own. The group plays everything from pub favorites to folk songs from the mid 1800s along with some original tunes written by musician and songwriter Matt Heusel. The band will also be playing some songs for the season at tonight's show. Black Slaney features Matt Smith and Erin Huffman. The Duo has been playing a lot over the last year and enjoys performing together.
Also performing will be Adrian Niles. As the front man in Adrian Niles Band, Adrian has performed on the Main Stage at Wheeling's Heritage BluesFest and has opened shows for Dave Mason, as well as Los Lonely Boys. Throughout the years Adrian Niles Band has performed with artists such as Jefferson Airplane, Ben Orr of The Cars, Stevie Ray Vaughn's rhythm section "Double Trouble" and Pittsburgh legend Donnie Iris. In February of 2011, Adrian Niles Band finished as semi-finalists in the International Blues Competition on Historic Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, as a result, they were invited to perform at the "Kings Of Beale Street" blues competition at the New Daisy Theatre on Beale.
Doors are set to open at 7 p.m. and music will begin at 7:30. Admission is free and audience members will have an opportunity to show their appreciation for the night's featured performer and the gallery by way of donation. Refreshments will be made available for purchase. Please note that there is no open mic segment scheduled for this season.
