WHEELING - A fun-filled gathering at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 16 with friends, dinner, and greyhound racing will cross the finish line for the 2011-2012 Campaign for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley with Night at the Races.
Major sponsors for the 17th annual event include Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack, the event location, Pepsi, and WTRF-TV.
Fifteen businesses in the area have stepped up to sponsor the evening's races. They are: Costanzo & Associates; Beyond Marketing; Steele Insurance Associates; Lamar Advertising; Riesbeck Food Markets, Inc.; The Health Plan; United Bank; Main Street Bank; The Times Leader; Wheeling News-Register/The Intelligencer; The Cornerstone Group; WesBanco; H.E. Neumann Co.; Chesapeake Energy; and Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration.

Judy Riesbeck Wright, campaign chair, thanked the major event sponsors and race sponsors for their support, adding "Night at the Races is an evening when we celebrate the hard work and generosity of our area businesses, companies and individuals toward the success of our annual United Way Campaign.
"Besides, it's great fun and a wonderful evening to have a terrific buffet dinner and enjoy an exciting time watching the races."
Guests will enjoy buffet stations offering the following Wheeling Island specialties: Carved prime rib w/au jus and horseradish sauce; pasta station, offering made-to-order alfredo sauce, scampi sauce, or bay scallops; fresh vegetables; penne and fettuccine noodles; home-style station; house salad and Caesar salad; Chef's Choice vegetable; buttered redskin potatoes; stuffed tilapia; chicken Marsala; dinner rolls with butter.
An array of desserts will include assorted cheesecake; assorted cakes and pies; cookies, and brownies.
Adding to the fun will be the awarding of three special prizes, which requires a separate ticket that will be available that evening. The first prize is a Romantic Hampton Inn/Wheeling Get-a-Way with a room, dinner, and tickets to "Momma Mia" at the Capitol Theatre. Second is a $500 Kroger gift card and third is two, 4-day passes to 2012 Jamboree in the Hills, donated by The Health Plan.
Tickets for the evening are $30 each and may be purchased by calling the United Way at 304-232-4625. Raffle tickets are $3 each or two for $5 and can be purchased at the United Way office, as well.
