THE BACK porch of the Stringer Stone House, built before the Civil War in Rayland, provided a good view and a place to relax. The late Robert Richardson described the grandeur of the mansion in his book, "A Time and Place in Ohio," and also revealed among the guests at the house was Rutherford B. Hayes when he was governor in 1876. The house was destroyed in a fire, battled by firefighters from Rayland, Tiltonsville, Yorkville and Dillonvale, in 1982. Photo/Courtesy of Ethel Richardson.
