WELLSBURG - A relaxing evening of unique wines and good food awaits ticket holders for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley Tri State Wine Makers Wine Tasting, set for 6-9 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at the Wellsburg Elks, 834 Charles St., Wellsburg.

Members of the Tri State Wine Makers Club will present samples of their hand-crafted vintages to guests, who also will enjoy an array of appetizers to complement the wines. Proceeds will benefit the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley.

Erma Rangos, co-owner with Chuck Rangos of the Winemaker's Loft in Follansbee, headquarters for the Wine Makers Club, said the members each "try to make a variety of different wines."

THE TRI STATE Wine Makers Club members are preparing their select vintages for the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley Wine Tasting slated for 6-9 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at the Wellsburg Elks. Looking over the varieties at the Winemakers Loft, Follansbee, club headquarters, are, from left: Steve Martino and Linda Caldrone, Brooke County; George Smoulder, United Way executive director; Erma Rangos of the Winemakers Loft; and Mary Kay Wallace, Brooke County Public Library.

Each has a personal preference regarding reds or whites, sweet or dry, so guests to the wine tasting will have a wide selection from which to choose.

"They all like to share their wines," Rangos said of the club members. "Each donates wine and time to serve for the charity, which is commendable. We go through quite a few bottles of wine."

Ticket holders and those purchasing tickets at the door each will receive a wine glass for the evening. The glass is theirs to keep, if they choose, Rangos said.

To date, the wine makers taking part in the wine tasting are: Chuck and Erma Rangos; Bill and Mary McElhaney; Ted and Linda Bolen; Derek Sliday and Christina Baumgartener; Lou and Marge Stock; Rick and Cindy Parker; Linda and Wilson Cole; Jim and Kaye Dowdy; Clifford Edgell; Bill and Elizabeth Shipe; Jim and Susie Zorbini; Luiggi Muscedere.

Tickets are $15 each or two for $25, and are available at WesBanco in Wellsburg; the Brooke County Public Library in Wellsburg; and at the Brooke Review offices in Wellsburg. Tickets are also available by calling the United Way at 304-232-4625. Tickets are limited.
