BELMONT- The Union Local Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday evening to discuss personnel issues.
Superintendent Kirk Glasgow updated members on the possibility of adding a preschool unit to address a waiting list. There is a possibility of an additional unit coming available in the area, but the state has yet to give its approval. Glasgow said that should Union Local be approved as the provider, the state will contribute $35,000 for the program. The school will probably need an additional $15,000 to get the program running.
Union Local's preschool is taught by certified teachers and is able to accommodate special needs children.
The district has been interviewing candidates for the Industrial Technology teacher's position. The current instructor, George Krebbs, is retiring. Glasgow says he believes they have narrowed the prospects to two men.
Board members have decided to hire former Union Local Treasurer Janet Hissrich as interim treasurer after the unexpected resignation of Shawn Miller last week. Hissrich currently works for the Switzerland of Ohio district and will assist Union Local at least until June 30, according to Glasgow.
